Annual Duck Race puts the fun in FUNraising

17 October 2018

This Saturday 1,000 junior ducks and 50 executive ducks will race down Bullock Creek seeking to be crowned this year’s fastest duck in the annual Rotary Club of Wanaka Duck Race.

Children and adults alike will line the course cheering on their duck as it makes its way to the finish line near the Dinosaur Park.

“The duck race is just good fun,” says Rotary Club of Wanaka president George Scott. “We’ve been running it for years and watching the kids chase the ducks down the creek is a real highlight”.

But there is a serious side to the merriment with funds raised going to worthy causes in our community and
abroad. “We raise over $10,000 thanks to the generosity of the community,” says George. “That money funds many worthwhile projects both here and, when the need arises, overseas.”

George said anyone wanting to purchase a ticket can do so at stalls outside Mitre 10 and at New World or at the event on the day. “We usually hold back a few tickets to sell on the day for those who miss out,” said
George.

The top ‘junior’ duck will win $250, with $50 each for second and third place. There are also 10 lucky ducks
winning $20 each.

The top ‘corporate’ duck will receive a $500 New World voucher.

The race begins this Saturday at 10am.
