Stars in Your Eyes 2019
Written by: David Baker, Wanaka Musicians Society
Stars In Your Eyes is back. Wanaka’s longest-running show will take to the stage for its 27th year from 19th to 21st September 2019 in the Lake Wanaka Centre. Organised by the Wanaka Musicians Society Inc. and featuring local talent, the show aims to raise funds to support music in local educational institutions. This year it was able to support Mt Aspiring College; Hawea Flat School; Holy Family School; Wanaka Primary; Aspiring Beginnings; Mountainside Educare; Tarras Primary; Wanaka Pre-School; Hawea Kindergarten; Riverside Educate; Mt Aspiring Jazz Band and Classical Chamber Group.
The society also gives an annual scholarship award to a MAC music student in memory of Jamie Robertson, one of the founders of Stars. In 2017 the award went to drummer Tyler Bailey (pictured) who used it for tuition that helped him achieve distinctions in the Rockschool Drums Grade 8 exam and the Rockschool Diploma in Musical Performance. Tyler has been appointed an Ambassador for Rockschool Australia and New Zealand, the only drummer in New Zealand to do so, and is now studying for a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Otago.
But Stars In Your Eyes is not just about raising money. It is an opportunity for amazingly talented local singers, dancers and musicians to put on a high quality show that is always entertaining and great fun. Surely that can’t be your neighbour singing like Ed Sheeran or Beyoncé? Or is it?
Tickets cost $45 and will be available online at
www.wanakastars.org from Friday 23rd August 2019.
Stars on Your Eyes is currently seeking sponsors to support the show - if you are a local business and would like to get involved - please call Janet 021 364 870.
